On January 20th, 1876, the wife of chief engineer Marison hosted the commencement ceremony and drubbed the first rail spike.
On February 14th, the locomotive ‘Forerunner’ which had been imported from Britain was pulling skip cars, marking the first operation of steam locomotive in the history of Chinese railway.
On July 3rd, Shanghai-Jiangwan Railway was put into operation, marking the first passenger transport service in the history of Chinese railway.
On July 5th, an advertisement named the Confession of Railway was published on Shanghai Newspaper which announced the train schedule and price. It was the first train schedule in the history of Chinese railway.
On December 1st, 1876, the whole Wusong railway was put into operation.
On October 20th, 1877, the operation of Wusong railway was brought to an end. It returned to China the next day, withdrawing from the stage of history. Anyway, Wusong railway was the first commercial railway in China. It has been 140 years since 1877 when it returned to China.
